Ah, date night. The best night in my humble opinion. Date night is one of my favourite things to do, something I look forward to so incredibly much because Ty and I have very different schedules. And now that we finally have summer, there are so many options. Don’t get me wrong, I am just as happy sprawl out on the couch and binge one of the many shows we’ve started together (but somehow not finished? lol), but because Canada has a v short window of summer, I think we should be taking full advantage.
The Rec Room is the perfect place for said date night (or a daytime date). Tylor and I have been a few times, and we always have a great time when we go. The Mississauga location at Square One is definitely the best one yet (imo), not only is this Rec Room extremely massive (44,000 sq. feet), but there’s so much to do, trust me, you’ll end up staying for hours.
summer menu
There is literally nothing more that I love then sitting on a patio and enjoying delicious summer food. You know what I mean by ‘summer food’ right? Sweet little appetizers to start, followed by yummy salads, juicy burgers, all paired with the summeriest drink ever – sangria. Rec Room’s in house restaurant, Three10 knows exactly what I mean by summer food. And they do not disappoint with their summer menu. Personal favourites include: Crispy Green Beans, Margherita Pizza & the Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
And if you’re type of person who likes brunch (what kind of psychopath are you if you don’t?), the Square One location has brunch on the weekends from 11am-3pm. As a true eggs benny addict, I am super excited about trying theirs.
There’s also a lunch menu, where you can pair items from the menu together for that perfect midday craving. The Trio pairs the Arugula Salad, Margherita Pizza, and Ice Cream while the Duo allows you to add a beer to any handheld item from the menu; both are available on Mondays-Fridays, from 11am-2pm.
game night
I think everyone who’s ever been to Rec Room, has played at least a few of their arcade games, but the SQ 1 location has even more to offer. There’s axe throwing (w/ smaller than average axes for newbies), ping pong, pool, bowling + The Void, a hyper reality experience. And after all the gaming, just when you start to get a lil hangry, stop over at The Shed for a quick bite to fuel up with some drinks, poutine, and donuts. Like I said earlier, you’ll be here for hours.
a beautiful bar
Whether you spent the last few weeks holed up in the bar, gripping the edge of your seat watching the Raptors KILL the NBA finals, or you’ve been on the hunt for a new spot for date night drinks, Square One’s Rec Room’s got you covered. Not only is the bar absolutely stunning, there are so many TV’s around that you’ll have a sweet view of all the sporting events your heart desires.
And if you get there a little earlier in the day, they have Appy Hour, snack sized apps + drink specials, from Monday to Friday, 2-5pm. I myself am a huge sucker for a glass of pinot grigio, add some calamari and you got yourself one happy gal. And on top of this, Rec Room has Wine Wednesday’s, meaning you can get select 9oz glasses of wine for the price fo the 5oz pour – run, don’t walk.
