Tell me we’re going on a trip and I’ll be the happiest camper. Traveling is easily one of my favorite things to do (isn’t it everyone’s?), so planning a weekend getaway on my birthday meant I could stop crying about the aging process and get excited instead. 4 days in New York, full of brunch spots, coffee shops, and touristy things; planned to perfection. But you know what?
Things don’t always go according to plan. Coffee shops aren’t always open even though Google swears that they are. Sometimes you hop on the wrong subway by accident. An unexpected hospital trip means you have to forfeit one of the brunch spots you were REALLY looking forward to + drooling over. It’s a little like life you know? Shit happens, and you just gotta roll with it. And I’ll let you in on a little secret. The unexpected stuff? Those make for the best vacation memories. It also helps if you go on a trip with your favorite travel buddy who then respectfully becomes your doctor / nurse / food delivery guy / caregiver / etc. in your time of need.
I hadn’t been to New York in a few years and it was Tylor’s first time, so we were definitely due for a visit. Despite the aforementioned hiccups, we had a great time in the Big Apple AND crossed a ton off on our list. But NYC is massive and there’s so much to see + do, making it impossible to do it all in 4 short days. To me, New York is a city you can visit over and over and experience it differently each time. NY, we’ll be back, I promise.
