I just came back from a very, very cold NYC and although it was a terrific birthday trip, to say I seriously missed my car during those 4 windy days is an understatement. Part of what made the trip so exciting was that I had packed every single thing that I needed. This coming from a girl who 1. is a very last minute packer and 2. always forgets something. So what are my travel essentials? Lets talk. We’re going to skip passports/chargers/phones/etc because I assume you’re taking all these necessities with you, yes? What I’m sharing with you today are items that will make your trip + wait time (there is a lot when you travel!) more fun, relaxing & enjoyable.
This little number was a birthday gift from my friends and honestly the cutest piece to stroll around in NYC with. It fits my wallet, makeup, headphones, and anything else you’d typically carry around in a smaller bag. The perfect dusty rose color, it goes with all the pieces I brought + it can be used during any season.
Looking for an excellent travel buddy? Enter Bio-Oil. Forget what you’ve heard about it only being for stretch marks + pregnancy, because it’s not. Is it a hand and body moisturizer? Check. Makeup remover? Check. Nail and lip conditioner? Check. Great for dry knees and elbows? Split end tamer? Itchiness reliever? Check. Check. Check. Do you know how many products it replaces on a trip as a result?! Amazing. I was able to bring a smaller suitcase than my boyfriend, on this trip, which is a huge win for me, and it’s all thanks to Bio-Oil. This product has easily transitioned its way into my everyday skincare routine. Basically, it solves all skin problems, and I think everyone should keep a little bottle handy during travel. Plus, the small bottle is travel friendly – under 100mL – which is necessary for those dry airplanes!
Tylor and I always take a Polaroid camera with us when we travel, to get a few snaps of our trip. Pretty self explanatory.
a good read
IF your phone dies, laptop freezes or ipad is out of juice, how are you going to entertain yourself? Assuming all the outlets are taken, of course. Bring a book. This one, The Twilight Wife, was sooooo good. Highly recommend, and it definitely makes waiting around for a delayed flight slightly more enjoyable.
This is mandatory in an airport/airplane/subway situation, where a place to wash your hands isn’t always easily accessible. And if you’ve been out all day exploring, its your best friend if you want to grab a hot pretzel or any other snack that requires hand-holding.
Of course, if your iPad doesn’t run of juice, then by all means use it! I like to download a couple of Netflix shows + movies, or brainstorm new blog post ideas. I also have an emergency Tetris game loaded in case the boredom becomes real.
Bright mornings and tired eyes aren’t always the best match. Throw these on for protection from the sun, but also so you can people-watch without seeming like a total creep.
In a city where you’re going to be walking all day, these are absolutely essential. I’m pretty sure my boyfriend is tired of hearing that my feet hurt, so I threw my booties in my bag, and wore my Nike Air Max Thea’s to explore the city. I’d make quick shoe change for pictures or if we were going out for dinner, but other than that I was a happy girl strolling around NYC in these babies.
