As a kid in high school + most of university I was way too distracted and as a result, very unproductive. I loved going to school but the actual work part was the part I could live without. Finding excuses not to do my work was my full time job. And I was good at it too. I was that kid who could wait literally until the last minute to do any of my homework / chores / anything else I had to accomplish. And I didn’t even stress about it. Starting papers 12 hours before they were due. Pulling an all nighter to get a project done, and then acing it. Looking back, I don’t know how I operated like that. Sure, the temptation to procrastinate is still there, but I’ve found a couple of ways to avoid it and be productive with my time instead:
make a list + a schedule
I like to make a list of everything I have to do that day, whether it’s for work, blog activities or errands. And then I schedule when I’m going do it – and here’s the catch – you check it off when it’s done. I’m a list maker, and I love the feeling of crossing something off my list (list lovers, ya feel me?) I’m that girl who will buy every. single. thing. from Chapters because I somehow believe it’ll transform me into this super organized human being. Currently, I’m trying to figure out how bullet journals work so I can start one and have all of my organizational and productivity dreams come true.
My dream job consists of: 1. working for myself 2. doing what I love 3. being able to go to a yoga class in the middle of a work day. If you can, take a break in the midst of your work. I promise that you’ll come back refreshed + rejuvenated and ready to conquer your to-do list. I always feel super productive after working out or going to a class.
get some inspo
Writer’s block is a thing you guys. The way to overcome it or anything else that’s preventing you from getting your work done? Get some inspiration. Take a Pinterest break, and find some #minimalbedroom inspo (my weakness). Talk about your new work project with a friend, and get their opinion. Or get outside, and go for a walk. Inspiration is everywhere, you just have to find it.
get out of the house
A change of scenery can do wonders. I love heading out to a local coffee shop/cafe and getting some work done there. There are usually other creatives working, and if you play your cards right, there’s a good chance you’ll make a new friend. Or, if you want to do your own thing that’s cool too – I find I’m in a better mood and more productive just by being there (because duh, coffee).
You have to reward yourself when you accomplish a task or complete a certain amount of work! Schedule your work in chunks, and then treat yo’self when you get it done. Some people like to reward themselves with Netflix, others with junk food, or going out for brunch. Personally? I like to alternate between all three hehe.
And those are the ways I try to stay organized + on task. How do you make sure you’re productive during the day?
