Happy 6 days until Valentine’s day. Since most of us know January as the month of paying off all Christmas bills / getting yourself out of Christmas debt, the thought having to buy yet ANOTHER gift mid feb leaves our bank accounts cringing. So as an alternative, (although not really, because you totally still need to fork over the cash) I thought I would share some experiential vday gift ideas. Personally, I’d take an experience over a physical gift any day. Not that I’d say no to a new pair of loafers or anything. But experiences are way more fun in my opinion. It just means more, and you look back at them as a more fulfilled, happier human being. I truly believe that experiences make you happier than any physical object. I for one have enough stuff (as my boyfriend likes to remind me). So that being said, let’s dive in to gift-experiences you could give this valentine’s day.
Going away together on vacation is my favorite. Last weekend, we took a quick trip to Montreal (stay tuned for a blog post), but we’ve been on a few trips since we’ve been together. Miami, Chicago, Minnesota & California. He’s one of my favorite travel buddies, and we quite compliment each other – he’s good with directions and I’m an expert at finding instagrammable spots (ha). We love traveling together and don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my boyfriend and I enjoy the occasional brunch. It’s just something we like to do together; we talk, eat yummy food and obvvs snap a few pics. In all honestly, the only reason dinners aren’t featured more on the ‘gram is because it’s usually too dark for a good, #aesthetically pleasing pic.
Last year, on our first Valentine’s Day, we actually ended up getting one another concert tickets. I got Metric tickets and he got us Beyoncé tickets. It was one of my first concerts in a long time and I had forgotten how much fun
they were! There’s nothing like dancing along to the music while your s/o stands completely still. Now I’m addicted to concerts and since then, we’ve also seen Kanye & Tory Lanez.
So there you have it. Experiences > things. Try giving an experience this Valentine’s day, and trust me, you’ll thank me later. Happy love day!
