This is one of my favorites to do on a weekend. Turn your phone/laptop/tablet off (or on silent if you’re not quite ready to commit to turning it off). I try to leave mine in my room for a few hours on silent. Don’t check every notification or email that comes through (right away). The world is not going to fall apart if you don’t respond to an email or scroll through Instagram for a few hours. If you’re felling super brave my friends, try leaving the house sans phone. Scary, I know. But do-able.
As the great Elle Woods once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.” And they really do. I will be honest here – I don’t like going to the gym. I do however enjoy the feeling of leaving the gym – because I’m proud that I actually found some motivation to get up off my lazy but and workout. It’s a love hate relationship – one that I’m working on 😉 Gyms aren’t the only way to get your endorphins. Take a walk. Go on a hike (I go w/ my dog). Sign up for a kickboxing class. Just do it. You’ll be happier, I promise.
Cook + bake. I love baking. Not that I am any expert (you’re talking to the girl who loves her pre-made mixes), but I find baking incredibility relaxing. Creating something out of mere ingredients is fun you guys! Obviously eating everything you’ve made in one sitting is fun too. Since I am attempting to be healthy, I’ve started to dabble in cooking all my meals. Here is my current eating routine:
Step 1: Find a meal I am capable of making.
Step 2: Make it for weeks on end.
Step 3: Wait until I am so unbelievably sick of it that I cannot stand to eat it any longer.
Step 4: Repeat.
Crossing my fingers it doesn’t happen with my new fav, burrito bowls.
books + writing
Unwind with a good book. Just read 10 pages every night before bed, and you’ll be done the book before you know it. I just finished Dark Places, and I’m hoping to read The Twilight Wife next. Writing is great too – I write here on this blog, but when I have ideas for a post I like to write it in a notebook. There’s nothing like putting pen to paper and just writing down your thoughts – super relaxin’, let me tell ya.
netflix & chill
By yourself. Or with a buddy. I’m sure you can all appreciate the joy that comes with finding a new Netflix series to binge on. Grab a snack, and starting watching. Netflix is addicting (I’m definitely guilty of watching an entire series in one sitting), so you gotta know when to stop. Use Netflix as a reward for yourself, and watch it after you’ve finished everything you have to do for the day. Or if you don’t have much free time during the week, you can look forward to Netflix-ing on the weekends. Currents faves: Luke Cage, The OA, and A Series of Unfortunate Events – I loved Lemony Snicket as a kid, and was over the top excited to hear it as going to be on Netflix.
take a bath.
I have never been bath person (why does any human need that many bath bombs?!), but after my first one in a long time, I’ve converted. When we were shooting this picture, for example – it was really hard for me to get out of the tub. It was so warm and bubbly, I could have stayed there all day. Baths are so good for you – they’re relaxing, great for your skin, they loosen your muscles, and are all around awesome. Throw in a few Lush bath goodies, glass of wine, a book you can’t put down and you’re set.
